Mentoring program in Germany enters it’s 7th round this year – 76 tandems matched by now!
In 2011 some engaged Zontians in Berlin set up a mentoring program between German Zonta-Clubs and Femtec.Alumnae. Femtec.Alumnae e.V. is a network of women with a background in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM-professionals).
The idea of the program: experienced Zontian’s support young professional women (mostly STEM) who are in their first professional functions during a fixed period of 11 month (from January – November). The program starts with a kick-off with all newly matched tandems and ends with a joint workshop to share results and experiences. In between the tandems meet individually in their home towns – and some of them virtually via skype (only when we weren’t able to find a mentor in the same region).
This is a really rewarding experience for both – for the mentees as well as for the zontian mentors.
A small team of Femtec Alumnaes and Zontians organizes the matching and the process. The application for the 7th round starts for the mentees in July and the search for mentors takes place from September – October.
This program supports the idea of advocacy and helps Zonta to become known to younger women.
