ZD30 Conference – Day 3

Today, Friday, September 22, 2023, our guests continued their visit to our hills between Barbaresco and Neive. In the morning, at the Teatro Sociale Busca, the Forum Women Amid Changes took place. During this event, the consequences of the climate impact on migrants were analyzed through the words of exceptional guests from Australia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Sudan, and Iran. The need to promote actions with various artistic expressions to combat gender inequalities in relation to climate phenomena was discussed. Scenarios of war, such as those in Ukraine and Sudan, as well as worlds deprived of fundamental rights and freedoms, as in Iran and Afghanistan, were explored.

In the afternoon, eleven Zontians from four clubs in Areas 02 and 03 (Weinheim, Tubingen, Schwabisch Hall, and Karlsruhe in Germany, Ste.-Croix Val de Travers in Switzerland) arrived in Piazza Duomo on bicycles. They started their journey from Martigny (Switzerland) on September 19, passing through the Grand Saint Bernard Pass, making stops in Pont Saint Martin in Valle d’Aosta and Alessandria before finally reaching Alba after covering 3000 km. They were welcomed by Governor Ivana Sarotto, Area Director Renata Vallo, Chair of the ZONTA BIKE Committee, and Mayor Carlo Bo under the slogan “WOMEN ATHLETES BUILDING A MORE EQUAL WORLD.” The bike ride raised 5,500 euros for women victims of violence and the Zonta For Women Foundation.

Following this, the opening ceremony took place at the Church of San Domenico, with greetings from District Conference Chair Luciana Adriano, the opening speech by District 30 Governor Ivana Sarotto, the representation of Zonta International by Id Renee Coppock, and Deputy Mayor Carlotta Boffa. The ceremony began with the parade of flags from the eight countries of District 30, led by Chairman Nadia Biancato, past Governor of District 30, and was enriched by the music and songs of Alessandra Brunengo & Ensemble Lirico Note di Seta, accompanied by Maestro Giovanni Pueraei, and the notes of Trio Koinè. Distinguished guests, Cristina Leone, President of CTNA (National Aerospace Technology Cluster), and Angela Natale, Managing Director of Boeing Southern Europe, also made contributions.

The evening concluded with a welcome dinner at the Miroglio hangar.
